Jobs

Looking for a job?

When I come across opportunities, I post them here. So if you’re looking for some, bookmark this page and check back often!

I also highly recommend searching the B Corp website. You can filter by location, size, industry, etc. to target companies that are actively trying to be more sustainable. B corp is a third-party auditing organization that companies pay to determine whether their sustainability claims are accurate and authentic.

It can also be a good strategy to target companies that you like and patronize! Go to their websites and look at their Careers page to see what positions they have open. Even if your dream position isn't available, applying to a different position within an organization that you like allows you to get your foot in the door. It’s a lot easier to change positions within a company who already knows and likes you than to apply to jobs with no prior connections. Good luck!

If you were ever one of my students at Loyola, please feel free to reach out if you’d like to put me down as a reference or if you need a letter or recommendation! Always happy to help :)

Can’t get a job? Here are some other options!

Trade School

I highly recommend trade school. In the age of AI, we need more skilled labor!

Chicago Women in Trade offers free training for women for skilled labor.

Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Programs provides an extensive list of programs in Chicago.

Volunteer

I know, I know. Volunteering doesn’t pay the bills. But if you’re going crazy with the job search and need something to fill your time (other than constantly apply to jobs), volunteering is a great way to discover what you want out of life as well as give you opportunities to network. It’s often not about what you know but about who you know!

Master’s

I have lots of thoughts and feels about grad school, so if you’d like to chat about whether grad school might help you reach your goals, I’m happy to talk!

*** Disclaimer***
I don’t have a Master’s degree, so I’m kind of bias against getting one. These days, degrees seem to represent barriers to jobs, not because they’re even really necessary for certain positions, but they’re often used as a way to try to minimize the number of applicants.

PhD

Did you know that you don’t need a Master’s degree to get a PhD? Ask me about whether a PhD might be the right path for you!

***Disclaimer***
I’m pretty over academia and while I don’t regret getting a PhD, I strongly believe that the decision to pursue a PhD greatly depends on what your goals are.
